Diary Entry

January, 1838

After I left art school, I’ve been working at Eisner & Iger Studio for a few months now. Ever since That superhero superman, a growing demand for American comic books has started and me, being a cartoonist, has joined the craze by working on comics in a fashion seen in the single pages of the Sunday Newspaper. A few weeks ago, Eisner and I found we were working in an all-new, multi-page art form. Now, I've left Eisner& iger because of money, and now I work for Victor Fox as a staff artist and have been working on the blue beetle newspaper strip.

March, 1941

I’ve been working with a man named Joe Simon and have stopped drawing blue beetles after 4 weeks. Simon and I have been working on ‘Blue Bolt’ who has super speed and can transform into a lightening. We’ve also quickly produced ‘Red Raven Comics’ where I have officially set my pen name as ‘Jack Kirby’ which reminds me of James Cagney and don’t be mistaken that I changed my name because I wanted to hide my Jewish heritage! Sadly, I’ve said goodbye to Fox to work with my good friend, Joe Simon and I've moved my family to an apartment in Brooklyn where I saw a lovely woman, Rosalind Goldstein. Anyways, Simon and I have produced an all-new superhero, Captain America. Where on the front cover, he’s seen punching Hitler in the face because the only real politics I know is that if a guy liked Hitler, I’d beat the stuffing out of him and that would be it. From what I've seen it’s become a smash hit!

September, 1947

Sadly, after the war, action comics have come out of fashion and we’ve been trying to find something else to tryout. Maybe something like crime stories, funny animals or teen humor. We found out that “true romance” had been selling well for both teens and women. So, me, Simon and Crestwood (our publishers) have published the first ‘young romance’ comic and the first romance. We've made history and it was a huge hit. So, me and Simon have planned to make more in the future.

November, 1961

After DC had great success with “challengers of the unknown”, it seemed like superheroes were all the talk. Martin Goodman and Stan Lee saw that and has assigned me with some of his monster stories which featured great adventures so all I needed to do is give them powers. When we released this comic book, we changed our company name from Timely Comics to Marvel Comics from one of the shell companies called "Marvel Comics" . Thus, “the fantastic four” was born!

I’ve pitched a bunch of heroes to Lee after fantastic four was another hit. Lee has been publishing a lot of monster stories by now and told me “What if we had the monster as the lead character?” this became what we called the Hulk. We’ve been throwing comic books from thin air by now and we came up with ideas very quickly. It seems like “Marvel Comics” is a huge hit. One of Lee’s previous stories about a scientist turned out to be a character called Ant-Man. Mythology is my favourite and Lee saw that so he conjured up a story about the Norse god, Thor. Next, we wanted to spice things up to do something about an ordinary person living an urban life and walked on walls and I brought a logo from back when I worked with Simon but sadly, I didn’t get the part and Steve Ditko did but I don’t blame them, Steve is a good artist too. This comic turned out to be based on a character named Spider-Man.
